Diary of an Affiliate Marketer

I’d like to say that I take days off from work but to be honest I never consider online marketing a job. I enjoy it too much.

Besides which, I find that I naturally end up working on the computer when my wife is watching her favourite program or film and I leave to do an hours work which usually ends up as 5 or 6.

No, I am very happy today. With the blueprint formalized I now have a clear road ahead with clearly defined tasks. I’m in no hurry to start today as my home town team are at home today and I’m going to the game.

Joy of joys we win even though the other team looked much stronger but I think the fact that the referee sent 2 of their players off and left them 9 against 11 may have helped!

The trouble with this internet online marketing is that I can’t stay away and can’t stop thinking about it. Once home I have a meal with my better and join her and my youngest daughter to watch a new series of The X Factor with Simon Cowell.

If you look at a program like The X Factor you will realise that they are looking for the same thing you are. Each of the judges has a group of people they have selected to compete on stage in the live programs.

One of the things that struck me when I listened to the judges was the number of times I heard them same they were looking for the X factor, that something different in a performer.

They weren’t looking for someone who is good. They were looking for someone who was good and different.

Well that is the same for affiliate marketing. It is no good just finding a product to sell, applying to the affiliate program, slapping up a web page and expecting to make sales.

You need to bring something different to the market. You cannot be the same as everyone else. You have to be better and different!

The next time you are looking at a product and wondering whether this may be something you make work and make a profit. Take a good look at the competition and understand what their message is.

What are they saying to the visitor?

What is their message and what is their USP … unique selling proposition?

If you can see a gap in the market for your USP … if you have a different approach to sell the same product then success can be yours if you follow The System and place yourself in a unique position.

Just as Simon Cowell and the rest of the judges are looking for The X Factor then so must we as online entrepreneurs look for ways to enter a market with a selling proposition that is different enough that we set out our stall in the market place.

We spend the next hour arguing over who has the best potential to win then I sneak off to spend an hour on the computer checking my emails and responding to emails from my new friends that I met at The System Seminar last week.

On the last day at the seminar a new friend of mine called Gavin agreed to remain in close contact so that we could push each other along and challenge each other as to why we hadn’t met targets.

It was nice to see that we had both been very busy since the seminar and Gavin has just informed me he has signed up for Market Samurai a keyword tool costing $97 per month.

Gavin tells me it is the best keyword tool he has come across and is worth every penny. I tell him that although I use Wordtracker extensively I need to look into his program as he is very enthusiastic about it!

I pass on the details of James Martell’s podcast about Zig Ziglar’s planning after he hears of my efforts this past week and we arrange to email later in the week.

It’s been a nice relaxing day today and I plan to write a lot of articles tomorrow.
