Diary of an Affiliate Marketer
Now that my Wordpress website is up and running I’m looking forward to watching the traffic results as I know that pages get ranked far quicker on Wordpress than a lot of other platforms so I want to see how it reflects on my figures.
When I was at The System Seminar Mark Attwood wanted to demonstrate the power of blogging and sure enough within 7 minutes of taking a photo of us delegates the page ranked number 1 on the search engines results page.
Mark is holding a seminar with Ken McCarthy in Manchester on 17th November on ‘The Art of Blogging for Business’ so I’m really looking forward to seeing how the top people generate income from their blogging sites. Some are making incredible amounts of money and I’m looking forward to seeing what techniques are used to maximize their blogging.
I’ve still to set up a Facebook account and now I’m being encouraged to set up Twitter! It’s hard to keep up with all of these models because to make them work effectively you need to make them relate and interact so that the ‘whole’ builds qualified traffic and builds your personality online.
It’s fascinating watching how Google’s algorithms rank your site. When I revamped the Florida site Florida scuba diving it shot up from 240 to 2nd on Google’s results pages out of 1.2 million for the main keyword ‘Florida scuba diving’. Then it dropped back to the 2nd page of results at position 13 and now it has gone back onto the first page in position 10.
The only thing I put this down to is writing a fresh page of unique content each day. This sends messages to Google that the website is active, content rich and continuing to build. As this builds naturally each day you will find that Google will move you further and further up the ranks.
Funnily enough, talking to some of delegates at The System Seminar there were various different methods used to drive traffic to websites from Pay Per Click to organic traffic through search engine optimization and a mix of the two.
People seem to forget that Pay Per Click is a very valuable tool to drive traffic to your website. It’s also a very valuable marketing tool. Where Pay Per Click has a great advantage is that you can buy clicks through your keyword targeted Adwords and send them to your landing page.
By constantly AB testing your Google Adword adverts and continually testing your landing page you eventually find the near optimum page for that keyword. Now that you know what your customer is looking for when searching with that keyword you can now optimize your landing page for seo and know before-hand that the page will convert.
This is a very powerful use for Google Adwords and Pay Per Click because you can test, test and test to get the right landing page built that will give you the most conversions on your website. So whilst you may pay out for clicks at the beginning and may not even break even on them, by continually testing you will build a profitable web page that eventually you convert on for free from your organic traffic.
So without any further outlay for PPC your traffic builds and converts because you tested the results before-hand.
Now that’s profitable!
