Backlink Strategy

Diary of an Affiliate Marketer

I rambled on the other day about backlinks and the importance of them to get good ranking with the search engines. Links are one of the strong measurables that Google and the other search engines use to measure your web page.

This is an important thing to remember. The search engines are not measuring your website as a whole, they measure the web page.

One of the mistakes I often see when people are setting up backlinks is that they nearly always send the links to the home page. Working on the principle that each page of your website is a stand-alone page it makes sense to arrange for some of the links to point to your tier 2 pages.

I was fortunate to stumble across a piece of software called Fast Blog Finder which is a fabulous tool for getting backlinks for all my important web pages. I know it was only a few dollars but the work it does is amazing.

Today I have been using it to search for blogs on topics relating to my tier 2 pages. These are the pages accessed directly from your home page and should be built using some of your best keywords. For instance, on my Florida scuba diving website Florida scuba diving the tier 2 pages are Key Largo, Key West and so on.

If you look at the home page you will see that Google gives it a page rank of 3 which is excellent for a niche website of this size. Now I will arrange for backlinks to point to these tier 2 pages to make them more important in the search engines rankings.

Of course, some of the links and page juice that arrives on the Key Largo page will leak up to the home page making the whole site stronger.

Fast Blog Finder makes this so easy. I put in dome keywords relating to Key Largo and off it goes finding blogs with good page rank that have “do follow” tags. By backlinking using the correct keywords in the links that I create the tier 2 pages are getting stronger with links and page rank which brings increased traffic.

James Martell is one of the best that I know of for search engine optimization and he has this down to a fine art. In fact he runs backlink seminars and coaching sessions to show how with the correct use of linking most of your pages can rank high in the search engines.

I have spent most of the day writing a few articles for my websites but it always pays to take time out during the week to add more links to your web pages and websites. For one its good search engine optimization practice and it also looks more natural if you build your links steadily and frequently rather than sitting there for a day writing comments everywhere on other blogs.

Remember when building your website or blog that everything needs to appear natural or you will be penalized by the search engines. Backlinks is only one part of your strategy to achieve page one in the rankings but it is also one of the most powerful.
