Diary of an Affiliate Marketer
Today I’m going to find out how well I did against my targets. Last Friday I formalized my blueprint and used the blueprint to generate my Weekly Work Sheet.
The work sheet lists each of my work tasks in order of priority. Just as importantly each of the tasks was broken down into each single step. You may only have time to take a couple of steps on each task but it’s amazing the power those little steps have.
By following the work sheet I know I am working on the right things and not getting distracted by all the ‘noise’ that happens working on the internet each day. Every day things like emails try to distract you from your main tasks and you need to remain focused.
Chris Carpenter of Google Cash Detective fame had a great way of dealing with emails. He only looked at his emails at the end of the day when his ‘real’ work had already been completed. This is what I have been doing lately and it works a treat.
When I set up the Weekly Work Sheet I must confess I set myself aggressive targets because I wanted to make some progress fast so if I’ve managed to achieve more than half I will be very pleased. I am marking myself out of 100%.
71%. Not bad, not bad at all.
Just by following a plan I’ve managed to achieve so much this last 7 days. It was certainly worth working on the blueprint for those 2 days last week as it’s already paying dividends, tenfold.
Now I need to set up next week’s tasks and I need to include reading Perry Marshall’s Definitive Guide to Google Adwords. I read the original copy some years ago and it was through Perry I was introduced to The System and Ken McCarthy.
The guide was my first introduction to using Google Adwords but it was so much more. It was only after reading the guide that I realised it could help you with web page design and layout. It could teach what content was required for you website by asking your audience what they wanted. It’s such a powerful tool and more than just a book if you read and apply the lessons.
Now, with his new book he has gone that much further. The Definitive Guide to Google Adwords 2010 comes complete with bonus modules adding so much value to the package that the book is a give- away, free. As Perry has built his business over the years he puts so much value into his products that everything is a bargain which is why I keep subscribing.
The problem is he gives you so much information that it’s hard to find the time to listen and read all the good stuff he sends and with my new plan I now have to build studying time into the schedule. This is an important part of your planning.
I see too many people reading, listening and looking for the latest miracle answer to make enormous amounts of money online instead of concentrating on doing the work and building the business one brick at a time.
Everyone I have ever met whether it was online or offline was an overnight success after years of work and building their business.
Greg Davis who was at The System Intensive in London recently was sharing with us that he was an overnight success. If I remember correctly he was broke between 2002 – 2007 and finally got it when he applied the skills he acquired through The System and now does millions of dollars each year after his overnight success. Greg’s mentor was someone he met through The System Gauher Chaudhry.
Funny how mixing and learning from successful people rubs off!
